Building a Better Education System for our Children.

After 12 years of Liberal Government, our education system was in crisis and our kids’ education suffered.

Poor pay and an ever-increasing administrative workload led to critical teacher shortages and forced our children into merged or collapsed classes every day.

My government was elected to fix this mess. We promised to deliver a better education to our kids.

Now as Premier of NSW, I am delivering on that promise through a record $28 billion investment in our state’s education.

We are investing $3.6 billion to deliver new and upgraded schools, including an upgrade Kogarah Public School and a brand new Kingsgrove Preschool.

This will ensure families can access the best quality education possible, no matter where they live.

On top of this, we are investing $1 billion in school maintenance and refurbishments.

This money will be used to improve essential facilities such as school classrooms, science labs, workshops, art spaces and bathrooms.

In just one year, the State Labor Government has made significant progress towards improving our education system.

We have increased the pay of teachers and made 16,700 teachers stuck on casual contracts permanent.

This was done to improve recruitment and ensure your child sees the same teacher every day.

We have also banned mobile phones in public high schools to ensure more productive classrooms and reduce opportunities for distractions and cyberbullying.

It means our children are able to focus on what is most important – learning in the classroom.

Now, we are starting to see the positive effects of our hard work.

Under the State Labor Government, teacher vacancies have been reduced from 1,300 to 900.

This is just the beginning. We still have a long way to go to fix our education system.

As Premier of NSW, I will do everything I can to build a world class education system and ensure that every child in this state gets the best possible start in life.

Yours sincerely,
