One year ago, I fulfilled my election commitment to ban students from using mobile phones at school.
Since then, public schools across NSW have reported widespread benefits.
A survey of more than 1,000 principals found almost universal support for the ban, with 95 per cent of principals agreeing that student concentration and engagement in class has improved.
Without the distraction of their mobile phone, students are more engaged in class and can focus more on their learning.
As Premier of NSW, I am committed to putting the safety of our children first.
By preventing our children from being on their phones during school time, we have not only improved their learning, but made them happier and healthier.
Before the ban, students were sitting alone, looking at their phones. Now, they are laughing, running around, having a good time and talking to each other.
This is also about supporting our state's teachers to be able to teach without the distraction of social media.
Classrooms are now more productive and filled with students who are less distracted and come to class ready to learn.
My Government has also implemented a School Administration Reduction Program to reduce the administrative burden on our teachers.
Through the program, hundreds of additional support staff are employed in public schools to relieve teachers of their administrative work.
It means our teachers can focus on what matters most - teaching our kids in the classroom.
This program is just one part of my plan to address teacher shortages and rebuild public education in NSW.
Already, we have delivered teachers the biggest pay rise in a decade and reduced the number of teacher vacancies by 24 per cent.
As Premier, I am doing everything I can to ensure that all our kids get a world-class education and the best possible start in life.
