I wanted to take this opportunity to explain the practical steps the NSW Government is taking to manage fuel supply as our community are impacted by shortages in petrol and diesel
I want to be direct with you; what we're seeing right now is not a shortage of fuel coming into the country - it's a challenge in how that fuel is being distributed across the state.
Fuel is still moving through the system, but it's uneven.
Some stations are running short while others are being restocked.
We cannot control global events, but we can and must take steps to get ahead of the crisis and be prepared for as many scenarios as possible.
This week we established a Liquid Fuel Emergency Operations Centre in Parramatta to track fuel availability and shortages in real time, assess demand across critical sectors including agriculture, construction and mining and identify pressure points and forecast future supply needs.
We will continue to work with industry to redirect fuel where it is needed.
We're also bringing forward a statewide fuel price compliance blitz to ensure retailers are doing the right thing which means that motorists are not mislead when they're filling up at the bowser.
I encourage everyone to use the NSW Government FuelCheck website and app that lets you compare petrol prices in real time and track where fuel is available.
As more families and commuters feel the pressure from rising fuel costs the best thing we can do as a state is to continue to work together, look out for one another and for people to not buy more fuel than is needed.
We have faced global events before and I know we can deal with these challenges together.
Our government will continue to do everything within our control to ensure that fuel supplies continue to reach the communities that need it most.
