Building a Better NSW - Two years of a State Labor Government

Two years ago, the people of this state voted for a fresh start.

In the years since Labor's election, my government has been working every day to build a better New South Wales.

We know people across the state are doing it tough right now.

It's why the NSW Government is focused on the must haves, investing in essential services that people rely on and getting the state back on track.

We can be proud of what the state has achieved in this time.

We've started rebuilding our essential services, by abolishing the wages cap and delivering pay rises to recruit and retain more nurses, teachers and paramedics.

After record teacher vacancies under the previous Liberal Government, we've made 16,000 teachers and support staff permanent. Already, teacher vacancies are down 20 percent.

Relieving pressure on our emergency departments and ensuring people receive the care they need has also been the top priority of the NSW Labor government.

We've cut the elective surgery waiting list by 75 percent in one year, reduced patient transfer time from paramedics to emergency, redeveloped local hospitals like St

George and Canterbury, and committed $124 million over the next two years to deliver 25 Urgent Care Services across the state.

To address the housing crisis, NSW Labor has moved through the biggest housing reforms in a generation, while improving rental laws to achieve a fair balance between owners and renters.

This is encouraging progress, but the truth is, we've only just started. We have a lot more to do to build a better NSW.

As Premier, I know the people of NSW want us to work relentlessly on their behalf - and we're going to do just that.
