Kogarah Lions Club

The Lions Club of Kogarah have been serving the St George community for almost 70 years.

 

Since 1954 the Lions of Kogarah have dedicated their time and energy to supporting the local community in many ways including:

  • Medical research
  • The St George School for Children with Special Needs
  • Wespac Rescue helicopter
  • Supporting individuals in crisis

 

The Club's 70th birthday will be held in April 2024 to celebrate their incredible achievements and future plans to support the people of the Kogarah community.

Little Legs Foundation

Recently, I met with Sue-Ellan and Marino Vasilou, founders of the Little Legs Foundation, at the Cure Café in South Hurstville.

 

In 2017, their daughter Alegra lost her battle with brain cancer – she was just six years old.

 

Her family pledged to help raise awareness and aid in the fight to find a cure for childhood brain cancer.

 

Every year since they have worked with more than 100 cafes across Sydney to host Coffee for a Cure to raise awareness for childhood brain cancer.

St George Community Transport Services

St George Community Transport is a government funded, not-for-profit organisation that aims to provide quality, affordable and appropriate transport services to the people of Kogarah.

 

Services:

  • Volunteer Home Visiting Program: One of their volunteers come to visit you at home once per for 1 – 2 hours for valuable social interaction.
  • Social Outings: All day social outings such as historical drives, lunches, shopping trips and other tours.
  • Individual Transport: Medical or personal appointments such as hairdressing or visiting relatives.
  • City Run: Major hospital and specialist facilities as well as selected appointments in the CBD
  • BINGO Bus: BINGO Bus to visit our local clubs in the St George area three days a week.
  • Shopping Bus: Every Monday and Friday alternative between Roselands and Rockdale Plaza.

The Kogarah Storehouse is a not-for-profit charity that has been supporting and helping the community of St George for the past three decades.

St George Men's Shed

3Bridges is community-based organisation that focuses on:

Kogarah Bay Progress Association

The Kogarah Bay Progress Association is a voluntary, not-for-profit, organisation striving to improve the quality of life, environment, and amenities of the St George community.

 

Achievements:

  • Establishing the building fund for the construction of the Kogarah War Memorial Pool
  • Dredging and draining of the tip of Kogarah Bay
  • Formation of the Beverly Park Golf Course
  • Building the causeway, now Ramsgate Road.

St George Meals on Wheels

St George Meals on Wheels Inc has a long history of service and care, having been a part of our community for more than 50 years.

 

As a community-based organisation, St George Meals on Wheels supports local residents by bring nutritious meals direct to them at home.

 

Activities:

  • Cook and prepare meals for both carers and those who are aged, frail, disabled or simply no longer able to cook a meal for themselves

Kogarah Historical Society

The Kogarah Historical Society was founded in 1970 to encourage the study of Australian History and promote awareness of the history of the Kogarah Municipality.

 

The Society meets on the second Thursday from February to November, at the Kogarah School of Arts at 2 pm.

 

Carss Cottage houses the Kogarah Historical Society’s collection of historical artefacts and photographs.

The Fix it Sisters Shed is a not-for-profit charity that empowers women of all ages with practical and creative skills.

  • Mentoring partnership programmes for Year 6 students with Arncliffe Public School
  • Partnership project with NSW National Park and Wildlife Service to build burrows to provide shelter for penguins at Lion Island, Snapper Island and Eden

St George Junior Cricket Association

The St George District Cricket Association established in 1898 has been providing cricket to the community of Kogarah for 125 years.

 

The Association administers the local U11, U13, U15 & U17 Junior Cricket Competitions.

 

They also contribute teams to the NSW Youth Championships and provide a steppingstone to higher honours.
