Our local parks and playgrounds are so important to our quality of life and wellbeing. They provide us with the perfect opportunity to get outside and interact with the world.
At a time where open green space is fast disappearing, my Government is committed to turning this around.
I recently announced that stage one of the re-opening of Kempt Field has officially begun with remediation works now underway.
Located in the suburb of Hurstville, the land at Kempt Field sunk and had contamination issues leading to its closure in 2022.
For years, the former Liberal Government refused to fix it, claiming it wasn’t even their responsibility.
The park was left to sit there fenced off, denying valuable open space to the St George community.
Kempt Field is a valuable piece of open space for local residents and I know we cannot afford to lose this beautiful park.
That is why I was determined to fix the park’s longstanding issues and return it to the local community.
My Government has invested $11.8 million to fix the contamination issues and re-open the park.
It has been more than 40 years since the park was used for landfill and I am delighted that this issue will be resolved once and for all.
Remediation work will begin in late September and is expected to take around 15 months. Kempt Field will be closed to residents for this period to ensure community safety.
Kempt Field is one of many public open spaces that are critical to the vibrancy of local communities. Having these types of spaces is essential for the people of NSW. They give us a place to relax, socialise and be physically active.
As your local Member of Parliament I am always on the lookout for ways we can preserve and create more open green space.
