The Minns Labor Government understands that small businesses have been through a very tough time over the past few years and is working hard to find ways to help.
The very least we can do is make accessing government contracts simpler and easier.
That is why I am increasing the level at which government departments and agencies can purchase goods and services directly from small businesses from $150,000 to $250,000.
This major change will benefit NSW’s 840,000 small business and the 1.6 million people they employ.
Small businesses are the backbone of our state and are at the centre of my long-term plan to repair, reprioritise and rebuild the NSW economy.
It is only right that the Minns Labor Government helps our local small businesses deliver the goods and services that we all rely on.
Each year, the NSW Government purchases around $40 billion worth of products. This change to procurement will mean a greater percentage of this amount goes straight to small businesses.
The previous Liberal Government did little to support local businesses. Instead of buying locally, they sent major projects overseas, costing us billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.
As Premier, I am committed to supporting small businesses, delivering more local jobs and investing in NSW.
I am already in the process of delivering energy bill relief to over 300,000 small businesses and toll relief for more than 700,000 families and businesses.
Small business plays a vital role in our economy through the products and services they offer but also the many thousands of jobs they support.
I want to assure the people of NSW, that this is just the start of my plan to ease the pressure on small businesses and ensure they have the necessary support they need to thrive in our State.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon. Chris Minns MP
Premier of New South Wales
