The Minns Labor Government values our nurses and midwives and the lifesaving work they do.
Before the State election, I made a commitment to the people of NSW to scrap the wages cap and make a fair investment in our frontline health workers.
I am pleased to announce inform you that that the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association recently voted in favour to receiving a 4.5 per cent salary increase, including 0.5 per cent superannuation.
On top of this, the wages cap imposed by the previous Liberal Government has become obsolete and will formally end in September 2023.
The Liberal-National’s wages cap eroded trust between essential workers and government, suppressed wages and significantly contributed to the staffing crisis.
For too long our nurses have been undervalued, underpaid and overworked. 12 years of Liberal Government neglect led to record waiting times, staff shortages in our hospitals and blowouts in surgical waiting lists.
This pay increase is the first step to repairing our health system and improving the working conditions of healthcare workers.
Nurses and midwives play an important role in helping the NSW public health system continue to deliver the care that patients expect when visiting our hospitals and health services across the state.
As Premier of NSW, I want to send a message to our nurses that the Minns Labor Government will continue working hard to address your concerns and ensure you feel valued and supported for the important work you do.
I will continue working hard to recruit, retain and support out healthcare workers.
The people of NSW deserve a world class public service and the Minns Labor Government will continue to keep people at the heart of all our work.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon. Chris Minns MP
Premier of New South Wales
