Relieving Pressure on our GPs

The Minns Labor Government is changing the ticketless parking fine system to ensure drivers are notified before they are fined.

The former Liberal Government introduced a ticketless parking system but did not implement sufficient safeguards to protect drivers.

Their poor implementation allowed the number of ticketless fines to dramatically increase, denied drivers transparency and eroded trust in the parking fine system.

It meant you could be liable for a parking fine without even knowing. Drivers deserve better than this current system.

That is why the State Labor Government is introducing legislation to change this.

The new law will require councils to attach an on-the-spot notification to your car or vehicle to improve fairness and transparency.

Councils must also take photos of alleged offences, including images of the vehicle, relevant signage and the physical notice left on the vehicle.

These are important and necessary reforms which will ensure the ticketless parking fine system is fair and transparent.

In 2023 council across the state issued 820,000 ticketless parking which is up 50% from 550,000 in 2022.

This is an unprecedented increase. And it is no surprise that frustration among drivers and community members about the ticketless parking system is high.

The ticketless parking fine system was introduced by the previous Liberal Government without regard for the impact on drivers and families.

Ticketless parking fines make it almost impossible for you to contest your fine if you felt that you had a legitimate case.

The National Roads and Maritime Association along with motorists first raised their concerns to the former Liberal Government in 2020 but were ignored.

Now, the current NSW Labor Government is taking action to ensure that the parking fine system meets community expectations and delivers a uniform experience for motorists across NSW.
