The first Minns Labor Government budget delivers the people of NSW the fresh start they voted for.
It is a foundation for a better and more secure future for NSW.
The 2023-24 Budget is just the first step in the Minns Labor Government’s long-term plan to rebuild essential services and ease pressures on families, without an unfair wages cap or the privatisation of public assets.
As Premier, I know people are doing it tough right now and this Budget provides responsible support to help with cost-of-living pressures.
Every person in NSW should have access to health, education, reliable power and other essential services.
That is why I am providing over $8.1 billion in cost-of-living support through more than 100 different measures.
This includes an increase to the Family Energy Rebate and Seniors Energy Rebate by $250 and a $250 Pensioner Concession Rebate scheme on ordinary council rates and charges.
I am also introducing a new program of $500 in fee relief per child to help with the costs of three-year-olds in long day care at eligible preschools.
In addition, a $60 weekly toll will begin in January 2024, refunding motorists who spend over $60 a week in tolls.
On top of this, the NSW Labor Government is partnering with the Australian Labor Government to provide support for 1.6 million households with a $500 electricity rebate and 300,000 small businesses with a $650 bill relief payment.
This Budget begins a new era of responsible long-term investment to support NSW families with cost-of-living pressures and to rebuild our essential services.
The Minns Labor Government has a clear focus – to manage our finances responsibly so we provide support when you need it most and improve the essential services that we all rely on, now and into the future.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon. Chris Minns MP
Premier of New South Wales
