The Minns Labor Government is investing $230 million in support for domestic, family and sexual violence as well as expand programs that reduce the rate of violence against women and children.

In Australia, nearly one in four women have experienced some form of violence since the age of 15. In this year alone, 26 women have been killed – a rate of one death every four days.

There is no shying away from these horrendous statistics and the tragic stories behind them.

Too many lives have been lost and too many families have been broken because of domestic and family violence.

That is why as Premier of New South Wales, I am committed to providing the necessary support for victim-survivors and ensuring that we learn from past experiences and do better for communities across our State.

This funding announcement is an important first step to doing better, to recognising that the State needs to do more and that something needs to change.

For now, the Minns Labor Government is taking urgent action to address the unacceptable rate of violence against women and children.

Starting with the Staying Home Leaving Violence program which helps women and children remain safe in their homes after leaving a violent relationship. $48 million is being investing to ensure every woman in NSW will have access to this program.

The State Labor Government is also implementing a Primary Prevention Program in our schools and communities to change the culture of our society by educating our children about healthy relationships.

This funding is only a first step. There is a lot more to do and all Government’s need to do better.

I want to send a message to the people of NSW that as your Premier, I am focused on doing everything I can possibly can to prevent more violence in our community and ensure everyone feels safe in their own home.

Yours sincerely,

The Hon. Chris Minns MP
