My Government has appointed the lead design team for the biggest upgrade of Canterbury Hospital in 26 years.

It was an election commitment of mine to redevelop Canterbury Hospital by expanding the facility and delivering upgrades to existing infrastructure.

I am determined to see this much-needed facility redeveloped and this announcement is the first step towards delivering on that.

Canterbury Hospital has been serving our local community since 1929 and received its last major upgrade in 1998.

My Government’s investment will help build the healthcare infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing community and enable our dedicated nurses to deliver high-quality care in the latest facilities.

Canterbury is a vibrant and hardworking community and this redevelopment will help provide local jobs in health, technology and clinical support services.

In the coming months, the lead design team will work with the Sydney Local Health District to determine the key clinical service priorities and progress the planning for the redevelopment.

This investment is just a small part of my plan to fix the mess left in our public health system after 12 years of Liberal Government.

I am also delivering the final stage of the St George Hospital redevelopment which will bring together a range of ambulatory, outpatient and community health services.

As Premier of New South Wales, I am committed to ensuring that the people of this state are getting better patient outcomes.

In one year, we have reduced the overdue planned surgery waiting list by 90%, reduced the number of patients exceeding the clinically recommended timeframe for planned surgery by 87.5% and increased the number of emergency department patients receiving treatment on time.

Yours sincerely,

The Hon. Chris Minns MP
