We all know somebody whose career greatly benefited because of the real-world work experience they received in the formative years of their professional working life.
NSW much like the rest of the country, is currently dealing with multiple crises, whether it be cost of living, housing affordability or skills and training.
12 years of Liberal Government has left us with a critical skilled labour shortage.
In contrast, the Minns Labor Government is employing 1,300 new apprentices and trainees in the local government sector across the state.
This will mean more electricians, plumbers, engineers, mechanics and construction workers serving our local communities right across NSW.
With a shortage of skilled labour slowing down the development of new housing and infrastructure, these apprentices and trainees will play a key role in building the homes and communities of our state’s future.
Councils are currently facing serious skill gaps and declining workforce numbers.
However, thanks to the State Labor Government over 1,000 young people will soon start their first job.
The State Labor Government’s investment into hiring new apprentices is one of the largest and will mean new workers in every single one of our 128 councils.
This marks the largest State Government investment in hiring new apprentices in recent memory and will mean new apprentices in every single one of our 128 local government councils across NSW.
As Premier of NSW, I am focused on creating more jobs and opportunities for younger people. I want to reverse the trend of councils and government services outsourcing work to private contractors.
We know that trainees and apprentices who start their careers early in local government, go on to have long and fulfilling careers in the industry of their trade.
This initiative is a part of my Government’s plan to build a better future for the next generation.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon. Chris Minns MP
Premier of New South Wales
