The 2024-25 Budget in Kogarah

The 2024-25 Budget in Kogarah Main Image

I know that families and households across our community are doing it tough.

That is why my Government's second budget sets out our plan to build a better NSW and take pressure off families by:

  • Building better homes for NSW the biggest investment in housing by a Government in NSW's history.
  • Rebuilding our essential services by attracting and retaining more teachers in our schools and more health workers in our hospitals with better pay and conditions.
  • Making healthcare more affordable with new incentives for GPs to bulk bill more patients.
  • Reducing hospital wait times through a $480 million Emergency Department Relief Package.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Minns MP
Premier of NSW
Member for Kogarah

Education

Under the previous Liberal Government our teachers were leaving the profession in droves.

Our children's education suffered with thousands of merged and collapsed classes every week.

Since coming into Government, I have been working hard to rebuild our education system.

In this year's budget, I am:

  • Increasing teacher's pay to improve recruitment and retention.
  • Transitioning 16,700 temporary teachers and support staff to permanent roles.
  • Delivering an upgrade to Kogarah Public School
  • Investing in a new public preschool at Kingsgrove Public School.
  • An upgrade for Hurstville Public School, including a pedestrian overpass on Forest Rd.

Health

Our first budget reprioritises spending to frontline health staff, to stem the flow of nurses leaving the profession and getting better patient outcomes.

  • Continued the redevelopment of St George Hospital.
  • Delivered an upgrade to Canterbury Hospital.
  • Opened a new free Carlton Urgent Care Centre.
  • Provided incentives for GPs to bulk bill more patients to ensure that visits to the doctor remain affordable and accessible.

Cost of Living

I know my Government must focus on what matters most to our community - helping families with cost of living pressures.

  • Health: Provided incentives for GPs to bulk bill more patients to make healthcare more affordable for you.
  • Tolls: Capped tolls at $60 a week.
  • Childcare: Provided $500 in fee relief for families with three-year-olds in long daycare.
  • Housing: Reduced the amount of stamp study first home buyers pay.
